Group Health Renewal Check

Your health plan got too expensive. Start by finding out what changed.

Enter the renewal amount and enrolled employee count. I will compare them with the prior period and show how much of the increase follows enrollment and how much remains in average cost per enrolled employee.

See what your numbers show before you decide what to do next.

The total tells you how much more you are paying. It does not tell you what changed underneath it.

More enrolled employees can raise the total even when average cost stays flat. Average cost per enrolled employee can also rise while enrollment barely moves. Those are different problems, and they lead to different questions.

  • How much of the increase follows enrollment
  • How much remains in average cost per enrolled employee
  • What still needs explanation before you compare options

What I will separate

I want the two medical-plan amounts and the enrollment counts that go with them.

Medical-plan amount

Give me the prior and renewal monthly amounts on the same basis.

Enrolled employees

Give me the enrolled employee count for each period.

Coverage changes

I will also ask whether the carrier, network, plan or cost basis materially changed.

You will know what part of the increase deserves explanation

I will separate the movement associated with enrollment from the remaining movement in average cost per enrolled employee, then show you what I would verify before deciding what to change.
